Wolverines Win

The Wolverines kicked off their 2014 season with a convincing 40-6 win over the St.John’s Tigers. The Wolverine offence was lead by the hard-nose running of grade 11 starter Michael Fyfe, who pounded out 142 yards on 16 carries, and 2 TDs.

The Wolverines were also able to score on a beautiful pass and catch between Taylor Ward and Simon Sepke. Ward was able to drop in a pass into the waiting arms of Sepke for a TD, putting the Wolverines up for good. That was Ward’s only completion of the afternoon, as the strong winds and rain really made it tough to throw the ball.

The Wolverine Defence had an impressive outing limiting the Tiger offence to just one score. They did allow the Tigers running back to dance around and chew up some yards throughout the game, but they were able to tighten up when needed. The opportunistic defense was even able to score a TD, when the Tigers had a bad snap Jordan Mages was able to jump on the ball in the endzone. Speaking of Mages, he had an excellent first game as a Wolverine leading the team with 6.5 tackles, he was flying around the field on Thursday.

The Wolverines have a short week, as they look to welcome the St.Norbert Celtics in their homecoming game this Thursday, at 4PM.

Be sure to come and cheer them on.

 Go Wolverines
