Coulis Breaks a Record

It was another great win for the Wolverines! They went into Fort Frances Ontario and came away with a solid 46-16 win. It was a solid team win, however Brayden Coulis had a tremendous game.
When the day was done he broke the WHSFL record for points in a game.

The Wolverines were clicking in all three phases of the game. Take a look at some of the offensive numbers:

Defensively the Wolverines were strong, not allowing any rushing yards. They missed one play where Fort Frances was able to capitalize on a deep pass down the middle for a TD. On the ensuing kickoff the Wolverines took it back for a TD. Have a look:
Great blocking by Fabian, Austin, Julian, Sepke, and Tops!

Then on the ensuing kickoff Fort Frances scored their other TD.
The Wolverines executed a great play in the second quarter. The offensive line gave Taylor Ward great protection, Taylor threw a bullet to Coulis, who then turned on the jets and ran it in for another TD. Have a look here:

The offensive line did a great job protecting Taylor Ward all game. They also opened some huge holes for Coulis to run for some big gains. On Coulis' TD run Lucas Barstad did a wonderful job lead blocking for Coulis who pretty much went untouched through a gigantic hole made by the offensive line. In the video below Lucas is 59, watch him lead block for Coulis.

That is it for the regular season. The Wolverines finish 5-3. However, they have to drop one of their wins. So they finish 4-3 good for 5th place. Now the real season begins. PLAYOFFS!

The Wolverines now get a chance at redemption as they travel to DMCI and look to avenge a loss earlier in the season. It should be a great game.

AUSTIN POWERS! NOPE BENEVIDES!!!!

Holy Shmoly Guacamole what a great win for the Wolverines!
Wolverines won the 7oaks bowl decidedly 38-0, in a dominating offensive and defensive performance. The game could not have started better when Maples attempted an onside kickoff and failed. So the Wolverines had possession, and a short field, guess what they did?

Yup, deep to Austin Benevides! It was a beautiful pass by Taylor Ward to Benevides who ran it down to the 3 yard line. Two plays later the Wolverines were up 7-0!

How about defence?

When Maples took their first snap, Fyfe, and Sepke combined for a 6 yard sack. Second play of the game?

Sepke with a tackle for a 4 yard loss. And those first 6 plays set the tone for the rest of the game.

The Wolverine offence was able to do pretty much what ever they wanted! Fyfe had 10 carries for 128 yards and two TDs. Fabian had two receptions for 51 yards! Ward was 6 for 10 for 121 yards.
On defence Mages had 5 tackles and 2 sacks. But the night belonged Austin Benevides. What a great show. He had 3, yes 3 interceptions, one returned for a TD. And get this one INT was called back, so Austin could have had 4 INTs on the night.

Wolverines look to continue the winning streak as they take on the Fort Frances Muskies On Friday!

Let's go Wolverines!

WOLVERINES EVEN RECORD AT 3-3

It was cold. It was wet. It was sloppy. It was a win. Wolverines won an old-school hard-nose football game 27-6, in the wind and rain in chilly Brandon MB.
It was a tough game for both QBs as each quarterback completed only  one pass. To make it worse for Neelin's quarterback, he was picked off by Austin Benevides, to seal the victory late in the fourth quarter.

The name of the game yesterday afternoon was defence. The Wolverine defence did an amazing job stacking the line of scrimmage and stuffing the Spartans. Jordan Mages had another strong game playing MAC, finishing with 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss in 3 quarters of work. If you were to ask Jordan how his game went he would probably mention the INT he dropped early in the 3rd quarter.

The Wolverines only had one defensive breakdown in the game when Neelin was able to break a 60 yard run for a TD. After that play early in the game, the Wolverines were able to shut down the Neelin offence. The Wolverine defence even got it some scoring, scoring a defensive TD. Sepke did an amazing job finding the bouncing ball, scooping it up and running it in for the TD.

Both Mike Fyfe and Brayden Coulis were running hard this game. Fyfe finished with 17 carries for 153 yards and a TD. Coulis had some nice runs as well, finishing with 10 carries for 77 yards. Another great highlight was Mika M's first catch as a Wolverine!

I couldn't publish this article without showing the picture of the night! It was cold and wet and windy and some of the players on the sidelines had to show the true meaning of teamwork. Here we have 6'7'' Drake sharing his Wolverine Parka with 5'5'' Nolan! Great work Wolverines.

The Wolverines look to make it two wins in a row as they face the 0-5 Maple Marauders this Thursday @ Maples' field. Be sure to come and cheer them on.
