CLOSE TILL THE END

This was a great game to watch and coach. Unfortunately, the Wolverines came up short and lost to the Giants 26-10. The Giants remain undefeated at 5-0, and the Wolverines fall to 2-3 on the season.

The game was close heading into the fourth quarter 12-9, and then the Giants pulled away scoring two TDs late to seal the victory. The Wolverine defence was again lead by Sepke, who had a strong game. Never coming off the field, except of course when a Giant punched him in the face and popped his helmet off. When your helmet comes off in the WHSFL players have to come off for three plays. Sepke rested up grabbed some water, cleaned the blood off his face and went right back out there. Sepke finished up with 13.5 tackles, three of which were for losses. He also had some amazing special teams tackles. Add in a couple of receptions and Sepke had himself one heck of a football game.

Mike Fyfe also stepped up his defensive game adding 8.5 tackles to the cause. Fyfe also ran the ball hard for another 45 yards. The Wolverine offence was looking to pass. For the first time in a long time, the Wolverine offence had more pass attempts than rushing attempts. Wolverines scored their TD on a beautiful throw from Taylor Ward to his favourite target, Brayden Coulis, who turned on the jets and ran it in for 36 yards for the score.

The offence had a good push in the third quarter, literally driving the Giant defence back 8 yards a pop. However, the Wolverines were unable to finish off the drive and score.

The Wolverines also started a handful of players that have never played football before. Congratulations, Julian Bertrand who saw his first action, and played quite well at defensive end. Jordan Mages a sophomore, started his first game at middle linebacker and was able to hold his own in the middle of the defence.
Here is a clip of Jordan making a nice hit when the Giants were on the doorstep looking to score.

The Wolverines look to stop their 2 game losing streak as they travel to Brandon to face the Neelin Spartans on Thursday.

Here are the game stats

If you are a Wolverine fan be sure to give this a Google +1 !!!

Let's go Wolverines.
